Queen Letizia sports a ditsy dotted dress for a family day out on the water

King Felipe was joined by his family at the Royal Nautical Club in Palma de Mallorca today on the final day of the 37th Copa del Rey Mapfre sailing competition (King's Cup).

After leaving the yacht club, the royal family got on board the Spanish Navy sailing ship 'Aifos' which competed in the race.

That looks a very odd dress, a jumble of details that don't seem to come together. I think it's the footwear that makes it look worse, the criss-cross espadrille straps are so unflattering, cutting the line of the leg above the ankle making Letizia's legs look stocky and accentuating the boxy look of the dress skirt.

So nice to see the family out together. As nice as it is with extended family, it is also necessary to be just a family sometimes. There's finally a picture of the king & queen seeming to delight in each other as they once did. I'm beginning to worry about their marriage. It could just be that only certain photos are published & a little hand hold or loving glance is not captured or published. Thanks for posting that photo! Hope they go out on a date night on this vacation. Love your updates!

I find it's no good when I start worrying about royal marriages - I start to see only the pics where they look uncoupled! Even tho I know the news editors just pick the pics for whatever story they are making up. I remember when Meghan joined Harry at a wedding in Jamaica and one newspaper tried saying they weren't getting on with their pics and another showed them totally loved up. But with Letizia when I look thro press stories I can find plenty of her and Felipe gazing at each other!

It looks like Letizia borrowed this dress from either Leonor or Sofia. It has a juvenile/little girl style that is unflattering on a woman. It would be greatly improved if those ruffled edges were removed from the bodice and waistband. I would also remove those short puffy sleeves and make it sleeveless. As for the shoes, I have never been a fan of espadrilles. The look unsightly and very uncomfortable to wear. In the summer I need to have the ability to slip my feet in and out of shoes and in espadrilles it's like they are in imprisoned in the heat.

I thought it looked a lot like the dresses Letizia's daughters have been wearing. I'm not sure it's a dress that can be improved even with your suggestions! I'm delighted someone else is no fan of espadrilles, especially the lace-up ones. So many people seem to love them!

The dress is such a poor design I noticed the designer is "unknown".

I love the espadrilles; like bright white, they should only be worn in summer. And what kind of shoes could possibly make Letizia's legs look stocky? The dress definitely is ditsy, especially with the puffy juvenile looking sleeves. But hey, she's on vacation!

I think the family looks adorable - all 4 of them. The king looks so happy and proud that his girls have joined him this day after sailing with the guys for so many days. I didn't realize until looking at sites elsewhere that the king has gone out every day sailing. I originally thought it was just one day as a token photo op. He must really like sailing. His big smile reminds me how my husband looks when we come to see him at his work place. I don't put too much time assessing clothes but after seeing negativity on several sites about this dress I got thinking. It's not my favorite dress but I was putting myself in her shoes...I first would think that it's a hot summer & I need something that will not show perspiration because these photos will be published internationally (can you imagine if that were any of us!!). Then I'd want comfort & coolness. After that would come fashion. Because of the extreme heat, I think she dressed very well. The more I look at the dress, the more I like it. It looks so comfortable. She is always lovely. Her daughters look so sweet. Glad they have each other in this crazy world they are growing up in. Lovely family.

Yes King Felipe is an avid sailor. He was a member of the Spanish Olympic sailing team at the Barcelona Games in 1992!
