Spanish royals celebrate King Juan Carlos' 80th Birthday

Casa Real released a photo today to mark the 80th Birthday of King Juan Carlos. The Spanish royal family gathered for lunch at the Palace of Zarzuela to celebrate the occasion.

Queen Letizia wore a grey striped blouson dress featuring a high neck with tie. I am currently out of town and haven't had a chance to identify the piece. She teamed the dress with her red Magrit 'Francesca' suede boots which she debuted a couple of weeks ago at her final engagement of 2017.

ID UPDATE (19 JAN 2018)

The mystery of Letizia's dress has been solved and it's origin is not what I expected! Nuria Tiburcio from Vanitatis magazine reports that the dress is vintage and originally belonged to Letizia's mother-in-law, Queen Sofia! The article includes an exclusive photo showing Queen Sofia wearing the dress on 22 November 1984 when she was only 46. Click here to see the photo.

The young princesses wore dresses by Spanish childrenswear brand Nanos.

It's nice to see Letizia wearing those red suede boots again. They work well with this dress. I can't tell from the picture if there is red in the dress or not but grey and red are a winning combination. I love those two colours together.

I love the boots, but wonder how appropriate they are for a totally indoor event. It is one thing to be outside and on coming inside, leave the boots on. But it is rather a heavy look to wear them at a birthday party

Another loose fitting dress from Letizia, seems to be a continuing theme from her to step aside from the skin-tight styles she's favoured for so long.

It's pretty and serviceable and clearly not intended to attract the spotlight, it's just not my fave dress on her. I find the long boots with it look out of sync with such a light dress fabric, and an odd pick for an indoor photo-shoot. Maybe they went out for a walk after!

The girls' dresses are pretty though quite juvenile in style for budding soon-to-bee teensters. Spanish conservatism at work?

Wow for Letizia! Good festive look and some high class diplomacy to rebout the press on the issue of both ladies relationship.

Impressive both repeats of queen Sofia dresses. Though i like the grey one a bit more. But the red one is not dated at all and voluminous curls help to keep balance with the puff sleeves.

Warmest greetings to both bloggers and the readers! I'm happy we'll keep 'seeing' over a cup of coffee and some great (or less great but always interesting) Letizia fashion.
