The Spanish royal family attended National Day celebrations today. The patriotic commemoration marks the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival into the Americas on 12th October 1492, also known as Columbus Day in the United States. King Felipe and Queen Letizia were accompanied by their daughters to preside over the traditional military parade in Madrid. Today was King Felipe's first time to chair the parade as reigning monarch. Queen Letizia looked elegant and regal in a fitted teal dress from her designer of choice, Felipe Varela. The dress is designed with a boucle tweed front and wool crepe back with zipper. Doña Letizia accessorized with a Felipe Varela pewter leather clutch and colour coordinated her dress with bespoke teal suede platform pumps from Magrit. The bag is modeled on the 'Sobre-Trapecio' style from the current Varela collection. Here we show it in bronze leather which is currently available for €445. Letizia added a touch of interest to her outfit with a pair of Bohemian style silver drop earrings featuring a turquoise green stone centre. At first I thought they were new but then I came across this photo of Letizia wearing them in 2008. Following the parade, the royal couple hosted a reception at the Royal Palace where they had invited diplomats and Spanish dignitaries. SHOP QUEEN LETIZIA'S STYLE FOR LESS ... Q. What's black, white and "red" all over? A. a newspaper :) This riddle came to mind when I saw pictures of Queen Letizia at tonight's journalism awards gala dinner held at Spain's national daily newspaper "ABC". The Spanish queen looked stunning in a Carolina Herrera white/black floral dress and a pop of red lipstick.
The silk a-line dress is from the spring-summer 2014 collection. The sleeveless frock features a soft, shadowy monochromatic floral print, and sheer chiffon back and yoke with floral beading and embroidery.
Dona Letizia wore her hair in a braided up-do which was the perfect choice to show off the detailing on the dress and ruby drop earrings which complimented her striking red lips.
The earrings by were first worn by Letizia in November 2013 during a trip to the USA.
ID UPDATE (28 JUN 2019): The earrings are by Aldao Joyeros. Below is a matching necklace.
Here's a closer look at the drop consisting of a pear-cut diamond with pavé diamond drop, and an oval ruby cabochon.
She accessorized the dress with a black suede clutch and her Magrit 'Delia' swirl strap heels which she wore recently to a UN reception dinner in New York.
At the event, King Felipe and Queen Letizia presented winners with the âMariano de Caviaâ, âLuca de Tenaâ and âMingoteâ awards â the oldest and most prestigious honours in Spanish journalism.

The royal couple wore grey city-slicker suits to the country fair. They may have looked out of place amongst the farm animals in their business attire but they were dressed appropriately for promoting the commerce of Spanish agriculture and farming.
Queen Letizia kept her outfit colours simple, pairing her grey wool Hugo Boss pant suit with a white voile blouse.
The blouse is a recycled piece but it's origin remains a mystery. Letizia first wore it in March 2014:
Letizia opted for comfort and wore her Pretty Ballerina 'Lindsay' flats in black suede. They feature a
rope bow atop a round toe, and a 3cm covered heel.
