Queen Letizia brings back Queen Sofia's red dress for luncheon with President of Costa Rica

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia hosted a luncheon in honor of the President of the Republic of Costa Rica, Mr. Carlos Alvarado Quesada and the First Lady, Ms. Claudia Dobles, who are on an official visit to Spain.

The lunch was held at the Royal Palace of Madrid and attend by other dignitaries.

For the occasion, Queen Letizia revived a vintage ensemble that belonged to her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia. Letizia first wore the red blouson dress (or separates) in December 2018 for the National Fashion Industry Awards.

Today she teamed the retro piece with her red sweetheart vamp pumps which still remain unidentified.

Queen Letizia topped off the look with her Aldao Joyeros ruby cabochon and diamond drop earrings.

Queen Sofia wore some fabulous clothes in her younger years. I must do some research. I think I read somewhere that she had a much bigger budget than Letizia so she was able to wear more expensive high end designer clothing. It's great to see them given a new life. This red dress is dazzling in every way.

In Spain there is not "budget" for clothing, they have a salary for living and they must manage It, the same as you.
Everybody knows how Sofía could afford those things... because of that her son in las is in prison and her husband, the former King Juan Carlos in Abu Dabi

How marvellous that the Queen can utilise this vintage clothing. This is a fabulous color red, she wears this beautifully. The skirt is quite lovely, moves so well in motion. The top looks quite nice, but I am not so keen on it. The ruby cabochon and diamond drop earrings look splendid. The shoes are gorgeous.

Leti always looks great in red. It's such a good colour on her, and I love those earrings! I'm not sure about the sleeves, but it's great that she's wearing some vintage pieces, rather than always buying new.

I haven't really enjoyed any of Letizia's repeats of Sofia items. Fashions certainly do come round again, but never quite the same and I find the repeats tend towards awkward and dated.

I'm finding the proportions off on this red combination this time, the sleeves seem limp when they were quite nicely puffed before, the bodice looks as if it might belong to a straight skirt, but instead there is the drop waist and then generous gathering. I'm finding the drop waist just seems odd, I think my fashion antennae may be off today!

With those racy red sweetheart pumps and the gorgeous ruby cabochon and diamond drops the whole outfit seems ideally suited to a presidential palace reception, I just need to hunt down more pictures of the separates to get more used to them.
