Queen Letizia brings back vintage Caramelo coat for visit to renovated monastery in Madrid

The Queen of Spain presided over the reopening of the renovated 'Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales' in Madrid, which will receive visitors after a 20-month closure. It does so after a major museum renovation that affects 8 of its rooms and the restoration of more than 50 works and the installation of a new lighting system with LED technology.

During Her Majesties visit, she received a guided tour of the exhibition accompanied by the curators Ana García Sanz and Carmen García-Frías, met with National Heritage employees, and had a brief meeting with the religious community.
The Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, literally the 'Monastery of the Royal Discalced', resides in the former palace of Emperor Charles V and Empress Isabel of Portugal. Their daughter, Joanna of Austria, founded this convent of nuns of the Poor Clare order in 1559. Throughout the remainder of the 16th century and into the 17th century, the convent attracted young widowed and unmarried noblewomen. Each woman brought with her a dowry. The riches accumulated, and the convent became one of the richest in Europe.

Over time the demographics of the convent changed, and by the 20th century, all of the sisters were in poverty. The convent maintained the riches of its past, but it was forbidden to auction any of the items off or spend any of the money it received from the dowries. The state intervened when it saw that the sisters were poor, and the Pope granted a special dispensation to open the convent as a museum in 1960.

Queen Letizia stepped out in her beige Caramelo wool belted coat.

I believe she first wore the vintage coat in January this year (shown below) but I mistook it for her Felipe Varela coat.

Letizia again teamed it with her glen check Hugo Boss pantsuit. It consists of the BOSS 'Jalorra' Double Breasted Wool Jacket and wide-leg trousers in a matching glen check pattern. I have still not been able to find a stock photo of the coordinating pants.

Under the blazer we got a glimpse of a new beige wrap knit top.

On her feet Letizia debuted the Hugo Boss 'Hazelle' boots in cognac. This is a style she also owns in black.

I love this oversized HB pantsuit, the Queen wears it well. The tonal topstitch detail is a nice addition. Its a beautiful coat. The beige wrap knit top is a clever addition in colour. These two colours work in well. The Cognac boots I love.

The soft Caramelo tan works well with the Hugo Boss grey plaid, and covers the outsize failings which I sometimes think prove too much on slender Letizia. These are certainly very sober tones to wear for a monastic visit, though I see another group member has favoured bright red.

The new beige knit wrap top looks interesting, though perhaps a little confusing to have more folds and lines in the layering on top of the double-breasted style of jacket. The new cognac Hugo Boss boots look gorgeous and are a nice working of the tan theme at the base of the outfit. I like those gold twisted hoop earrings as well.

Here's that suit again, that looks like Letizia raided her father's closet. The suit is big, baggy and masculine looking and swamps the Queen. The coat is quite beautiful, although I don't care for the over the shoulder look...put it on, or take it off. I do love the boots.
