The King and Queen of Spain presided over the delivery of the 2018 National Sports Awards, at Palacio Real de El Pardo, Madrid.
The National Sports Awards recognises people and entities that, either by their direct activity or personal initiative or as participants in the development of sports policy, have contributed in an outstanding way to promote or disseminate physical-sports activity.
After the projection of an audiovisual on the winners, Their Majesties delivered the diplomas to Regino Hernández, Alejandro Valverde and Joana Pastrana among others.
Queen Letizia brought back the Massimo Dutti golden pleated skirt which she debuted last summer for a family night out at the theatre.
She contrasted the gold hue with a black knit top and her black Manolo Blahnik BB snakeskin-embossed pumps with a custom rubber platform sole.
The highlight of the outfit was a new pair of emerald 'Puri Lace' earrings by Rod Almayate (€220).
Rod Almayate was founded by Diego Díaz Marín and Roberto Ferlito. Roberto is an Italian accessories designer, who has been working in fashion for more than 15 years and Diego Diaz Marin is a Spanish artist and photographer who worked in Italy for some of the biggest magazines and brands. The pair created the label over 10 years ago in Florence under the name Schield. You may recall Queen Letizia has previously worn a pair of Schield earrings - their 'Cyborg Flowers' creation. Diego Díaz Marín and Roberto Ferlito recently moved to Malaga, Spain to change their market and style, and also changed the name of their brand to Rod Almayate.

The black crew-neck knit is becoming a little tiresome. Keeping the look quietly elegant, I would have refreshed the skirt with tan leather pointed-toe pumps and a crisp white cotton shirt with the sleeves rolled up; or, a round-neck, fitted, sleeveless knit in a gold/cream colourway and gold earrings.

I chose to overlook the 'Puri lace' earrings in my original post as I don't like them. They are overpriced and I find the design too literal with the gold aglets. The floral earrings worn previously by the Queen looked great!

How very odd, while I'm not a great fan of this beige oversized skirt, I thought Letizia could at least carry it off the last time she wore it with a black sleeveless top. Maybe it's the angle of the photo as this time her outfit looks out of proportion, the back top too truncated, the skirt waist too high. And for some reason it looked worlds better with her espadrilles than these spiky Blahnik pumps.

Bertie, when I first looked at the earrings I thought they were so beautiful. A very intricate and delicate floral design that is exquisite. But I agree with you and Milly that they don't work with this outfit The last time they were worn it looked like an evening event which was more suitable.

I think these earrings have great potential with another outfit!

I am a bit confused, the earings are not the floral ones, if not the green ones.

I love these funky earrings but not with this outfit. I agree with Bertie, the earrings are a poor attempt to add some bling to this demure ensemble, and they don't coordinate with any other piece. I'm thinking the earrings would work well with Letzia's COS draped-neck dress teamed with her teal Magrit pumps.

Unfortunately, this outfit fails me. These sort of hemlines I am not a fan of. The black knit top doesn't help my cause. The fashion flashbacks were all stunning in their own right. My favourite was the gorgeous green cape dress, so elegant and just oozed class. The luscious red 2019 ensemble was superb from head to toe. Any of these ensembles would have worked fine. I dont want to sound like I am grumbling, but the earrings are a fail also.

I've never liked this skirt and I'm not sure why. Somehow there just seems to be too much of it and the irregular hemline doesn't help anything. Also, not sure of the weather, but to me the skirt says spring/summer, whereas the long sleeved, black top says winter. I'm trying to imagine what I would put with this skirt and I can't come up with anything. As for the earrings, they go with nothing in this outfit. They look like an odd afterthought.

I love that the earings do not match so much, matchy-matchy things are out of fashion, even polka dots are worn with stripes now.
