I often wonder why certain outfits get repeated and others don't. Since this is the 5th outing for this classic Varela suit I think it's an indication that it is one of Letizia's favorites. I do appreciate the lovely craftsmanship of the embroidery on the front and back panels of the skirt.

I've read constant complaints (not on this site) about Letizia's dark hair colour. I can't understand it because I personally love dark hair.
It reflects the light and looks shiny and healthy. I think this current shade suits Letizia well and it looks great in these pictures.

I guess because this outfit is sort of a warm skirtsuit and it is not necessary a coat and it is more comfy.

Ah, La Alhambra, Granada, what a wonderful place to visit. The architecture is amazing!

This suit has exquisite tailoring, but it is not a favourite of mine. I do like the details on the jacket, but I find the skirt to be very heavy and boxy looking with the wide pleats. Also the embroidery seems out of place. It clutters the look and appears frivolous on a thick, wool tweed. A straight skirt with no embroidery would have been a better choice with the jacket.

I note that each time Letizia has worn this suit, she has accessorized with navy. This obviously is the best to pick up the blue details on the suit.

I think you just hit the nail on the head, the embroidery is hard to take on the heaviness of tweed. If it was attempted as some sort of funky mix of textures, then the funk was lost on me!

This is one of my favourite conservative ensembles of the Queen's. The tailoring is impeccable and the style is reminiscent of 1940s utility suits with it's cinched in waist and box pleats. Traditionally the suit is restricted in detail, but Varela's sumptuous decoration adds refined opulence to the look. Piping outlines features of the jacket which provide further structure to the sculptural seam lines while the panels of flora remind me of pressed cornflowers. The combination of royal blue against the flecked wool is stunning, the embroidery and piping lift the design which prevents it from blurring into one, without overpowering the piece. Styling on previous occasions was similar.  The Queen is limited to navy for the most sophisticated presentation, the aquamarine earrings highlight the lighter tones in the fabric. This set is heavily influenced by previous decades but doesn't appear costume-like, it's regal with a dash of romantic drama. Soft details like the matching waist belt, which is almost invisible, accentuate the feminine shape of the hips. The pleats capture movement, and flair as she walks. I think this is a fine example of Felipe Varela being classically elegant and getting it just right.

I think such a beautifully reasoned comment is going to force me to re-evaluate my reservations about this suit! 'Regal with a dash of romantic dram'a is a whole new take on this for me -- thanks!!

This is a very conservative outfit, but I think it looks terrific. The pockets and exquisite embroidery on skirt front and back add interest. With this wool blend the overall look would otherwise appear bland to the eye. Neckline and collar I love. Beautiful diamond and aquamarine earrings, oh divine!. Choice of shoes and repeat clutch, perfect! Daytime makeup, natural and just right.

I feel like I should like this ensemble because it's something my mother would've admired on account of the tailoring and quality. But if I dare to speak my own mind, I find it a bit frumpy. Certainly elegant and attractive but I'm not excited by it. I prefer the unidentified shawl collar grey dress QL wore several times earlier this year. As I reflect further, I think it's just the skirt style I don't like. I can see the jacket over a matching slim-legged trouser or even over a navy wool trouser. The accessories look great. Hair? I think she looks more radiant when it's a bit lighter and warmer in tone but this is nice for a change.

I feel a bit guilty about not being a fan of such a beautifully made suit, but I've never really accepted all the embroidery. I know it's a fashion detail and of its time, but as an old-fashioned soul myself, I'm more than happy with sleek tailoring of this quality. However, I think it's very necessary for Letizia to find ways of changing style without rocking anyone's boat and the embellishment is undoubtedly an excellent way of doing that. I like the Magrit accessories with their peaked wave detail, this works particularly well on the courts to complement the embroidery without being fussy. Nicely done. Bvlguri earrings continue to be fabulous.
