Tonight she opted for a 1950's inspired midi dress by The 2nd Skin Co. The black taffeta dress features a voluminous skirt topped with bows of the same fabric.  The sleeveless dress is part of the label's Spring/Summer 2022 "Magna Magnolia" collection.

Letizia added a black skinny leather belt to help define the waist, and she kept the look monochromatic with her Manolo Blahnik snakeskin embossed pumps, and Bottega Veneta 'Knot' clutch.

Completing the look were the joyas de pasar diamond chanton earrings, and two stacked diamond bracelets also from the collection of jewels designated by Queen Ena in her Will for the select use of Spanish queens.

FASHION FLASHBACK
Up until last year, Letizia had only ever entrusted Felipe Varela to outfit her for this special occasion since her first attendance in 2004. Below is a look back at the ensembles worn since attending as Queen consort:

I don't care for Letizia's dress. The taffeta is so very stiff and the extremely full, long skirt absolutely drowns the Queen in fabric. The bows add nothing other than clutter. The leather belt, snakeskin shoes and the clutch look too business-like to go with taffeta. The only thing that catches my eye are the beautiful diamond bracelets. These last few days I have liked the outfits of the two young princesses, much more than the clothes worn by their mother.

From afar, the outline of the dress has presence and drama. It's reminiscent of Dior's 'New Look' with its cinched-in waist and full skirt. A silhouette that celebrates femininity and grandeur. Up close, the dress doesn't compare to others we have seen at the Princess of Asturias Awards. I commend the use of taffeta. The skirt is airy during motion, but the construction is relatively simple and the bows lack sophistication. In some photographs, the bodice looks tight across the bust, which may be caused by Letizia's perfect posture (her shoulders are pulled back). A pair of black Manolo Blahnik 'Hangisi' pumps (or similar) would be a valuable addition to Letizia's evening wardrobe. The snakeskin pumps are worn for mixed events, and no longer appear special. For me, the strongest ensemble over the three days was the stunning olive green dress worn at the Concert.

This dress would look so much better without those big bows on the skirt. I think bows are more suitable for children's clothes. Metallic accessories may have provided some contrast rather than black shoes and purse. Otherwise the dress is kind of boring and the belt looks odd for an evening gown. So far the outfits worn by Letizia at this years POA events have been underwhelming which is surprising because she is usually dazzling.

As you said, It is the Princess of Asturias (events) who is the most important person here, she turns 16 in some days...
People are asking Letizia to take a step back...she is the Queen Consort but never the head of State...

What exactly should Letizia a step back from? They are a small family and appear as a group to support the PdA.

Love Sofia's outfit. I love that she took one of her mother's tops and paired it with the skirt and shoes to make a ballet-inspired look. We may have a budding fashionista!

This dress is just OK. It reminds me very much of Princess Diana's wedding dress, both the bows and the volume and stiffness of the lower half. HM always is beautiful, but this dress is not.

I think this is a wonderful dress from The Second Skin Co. It encompasses everything of elegance and dignity that could be asked of any royal outfit, the midi length is very sober, while demonstrating chic and panache in the fullness of the skirt topped off by the delightful bows. Letizia takes centre stage with ease.

I think the textured Botega Veneta clutch and Magrit pumps are ideal against the rich but plain fabric of the dress. I'm not sure the belt needed to be added, but perhaps it helps with comfort; at least it doesn't distract.

Lenor and Sofia are both upping their game considerably. I love the snappy print of Leonor's Bgo &Me dress, and the short skirt with low heels show off her enviable legs. Sofia is enjoying maximum femininity in her aptly named Pshophia tulle skirt, and it's a great touch that she recycled her mother's Varela top.

I'm not so fond of flats with this outfit, but I understand the need to level out height difference between herself and her older sister.

Speaking about the height of the grls, It is not related to level them out, if not with the age. Sofía is only 14 years old, no time to wear heels yet. Leonor is 16 in a few days as tall as Letizia, 1,70 , however Sofía is more similar to the Borbons, her aunts are 1,80 and her father 1,97. At 14 she must be 1,74-1,75 already...

Apt descriptions Bertie. It is not secret that the Queen debuts something artistic with flair that is eye catching for this occasion. This is the first time that she has worn commercially produced fashion. This is not much different from the Varela worn in 2015 perhaps with the shades of black and grey in the skirts and a gorgeous string of pearls. In spite of the bows and a bit of sagging of the underpinnings, the dress had presence.
For the girls, Leonor's stylist is all over the place. Last year's replica of Grandma's dress worn to her parents wedding give way to this dress which has style but is a tad short. Sofia is cute and age appropriate in her ballet inspired outfit which needs flats to round out the look.

Unusually for me, I love this gown. It has the auro of resplendence, watching the dress on movement (saw a clip somewhere) it commanded attention. The full skirt, she carries off beautifully,. The bows are a miss for me, but I dont mind the belt and loved the colour of accessories. Adore the 2 Queen Ena stacked diamond bracelets, simply divine. The joyas de pasar diamond earrings, are on my favourites list, gorgeous diamond earrings, with luminous sparkle power.

Thank you so much for highlighting the bling, I managed to sail clean past it! The bracelets and earrings are all superior pieces and really make the outfit, and complement the drama of the dress. Quality sparkle 🤩

Your welcome Bertie. I will probably disgrace myself totally by admitting that I zeroed in on the Bling, before I took a look at the gown. These two pieces I love. I can only imagine what they look like in the flesh, mesmerizing !.
