On Thursday The King and Queen of Spain carried out two engagements in Granada. Their first event of the day was the inauguration of the exhibition 'Odaliscas. From Ingres to Picasso', at the Museum of Fine Arts, Palace of Carlos V.

The exhibition is made up of 48 pieces by artists such as Ingres, Délacroix, Chasseriau, Gérôme, Constant, Bernard, Matisse and Picasso, among others, from prestigious institutions and private collections. It reflects on the creation of the myth of the odalisque and how its figure became one of the great topics of art history throughout the 19th and 20th centuries and how it became a key theme that traversed a century and a half of major aesthetic transformations in Western painting, showing the validity and importance of the traditional female nude.

Following a tour of the Odaliscas exhibition, Their Majesties went to the Nasrid Palaces, where they saw the restoration works carried out and the link between the space and the exhibition.
Later in the day, Their Majesties presided over the delivery of the 2020 National Innovation and Design Awards, the most important awards given in Spain in the fields of innovation and design, at the Granada Conference Centre.

For reasons I have mentioned before, I am not a fan of this dress. There is no hang when the Queen is stationary, and the high shirred waist reminds me of childrenswear, etc.  However, on this occasion, the dress is beautifully styled. The nude pumps lengthen the look and the gorgeous earrings and purple clutch compliment the print perfectly. I find this to be the most successful wearing of the dress thus far. Having said that, I think the dress would look best with flat sandals and a raffia shoulder bag, similar to the Maje lookbook photographs. Some pieces brands style casually, Letizia will style formally (Hugo Boss denim shirt dress, Leyre Doueil black shirt dress, The IQ Collection cream jumpsuit...). In most cases, the brands styling is stronger. A design team will have spent months creating a cohesive story. This may be something to consider more when choosing garments in the future. On a side note, to my knowledge, asymmetric hemlines are not a trend for SS21.  A downside of buying so many trend-led items (in this case asymmetric tops, skirts and dresses) is that garments often look dated when the trend has passed - unless the item is very special.

Hola, el bolso que lleva Letizia no es nuevo, sino que es del año 2009 y el diseñador es Felipe Varela

The Spanish magazines identify the clutch as one by Felipe Varela that she has since 2009 (here in Vogue: https://www.vogue.es/moda/articulos/reina-letizia-recupera-vestido-verde-flores-maje-tendencias-2021)

Unfortunately I don't like this dress. I am not a fan of the hemline or elasticized waist. The shoes and gorgeous colour purple clutch look fabulous.

The dress suits casual occasions but it makes me want to reach for a pair of scissors to modify the hemline. The top half sits very loosely round the shoulders and isn't very flattering on Queen Letizia. However, the handbag is a great colour and shape and compliments the dress fabric. I enjoy seeing these earrings again.

The shirred waistline and awkward, angular handkerchief hem of the Rayema dress are never going to make for elegance, but they have a certain boho vibe which perhaps fits in with going to a picture gallery. Love the boost of purple added by the Verela clutch. Those two-tone Tous earrings were made for this outfit.
