Her Majesty premiered an understated black floor length gown from the Italian fashion house of Giorgio Armani.
The King and Queen of Spain hosted a gala dinner on Tuesday eveing in honour of the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, and his daughter Laura Mattarella, who are on a two day State Visit to Spain, at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
In the Throne Room, Their Majesties, President Sergio Mattarella, and Laura Mattarella received greetings from the attending Spanish and Italian authorities and guests.
A video of the arrivals:
Before dinner, King Felipe VI concluded his speech stating "I am sure that the future of an integrated Europe will depend on Italy and Spain fulfilling the commitments assumed in the framework of the Next Generation EU; in order to guarantee both a clear economic and social benefit for our citizens, as well as to make possible the continuity of the Europe we want.”
Her Majesty premiered an understated black floor length gown from the Italian fashion house of Giorgio Armani.
Featuring a subtle sweetheart neckline and thick shoulder straps, she offset the simplicity of the gown with some spectacular jewelry!
Queen Letizia brought out the Queen Maria Christina’s Loop Tiara which she first wore in 2018. The diadem is made of diamonds and pearls and set in platinum, and reportedly made by Cartier. This hefty tiara was a wedding present to Archduchess Maria Christina of Austria for her wedding to King Alfonso XII of Spain in 1879.
She teamed the diadem with a pair of small diamond stud earrings, and a diamond collet necklace and bracelet from Queen Victoria Eugenia's personal collection. Queen Letizia first wore this demi-parure for the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Naruhito in October 2019.
She wore her newly-acquired sash of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
Pinned to the sash was the 'joyas de pasar' pearl and diamond brooch which Queen Letizia first wore for the 2019 Pascua Militar.

Letizia looks very regal at this event. I don't think I have ever seen her wear so much jewelry at one time. It was wise to wear a very basic black dress to allow the diamonds & pearls to take center stage. Although I must say the cut of the dress and the way it flares at the bottom is very stylish and in no way boring. The sage green sash adds a touch of colour that make this a sensational evening outfit.

I like how low the sash falls, below the hip, giving it a handy bit of extra dash for evening!

This ensemble strikes me as definitively Italian. Perhaps, because I subconsciously associate a figure-hugging black dress with Sophia Loren and seductive Dolce & Gabbana campaigns I have seen over the years that embody full Sicilian glamour. I was surprised to learn the gown is Giorgio Armani. Obviously, the fit and quality are exceptional - GA hallmarks. However, GA's eveningwear usually includes interesting fabrics and intricate beading, so the column of matt black is a slight departure from the brand's aesthetic.

Italy is a very important country for Spain and viceversa. The sash is a gift from the Italian goventment so nothing to do with fashion, It is a surprise and you do not know the colour before, It is an honoring thing.

Yes I'm fully aware it is a gift and honour bestowed from the Italian government. I believe everybody who reads this blogs knows it's not a fashion accessory and I don't belive I wrote as such x

Elizabeth, I am not sure that everybody knows It, there have been comments before about the sashes and the match of the colours with the outfit. You obviously know It because you are very concerned and focused about Royals. And did they know what sash the Italian President and his daughter wear?

Elizabeth, I appreciate that you showed close up images of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. It's wonderful to see the details of these medals Nobody for a minute thinks this is a fashion accessory so I'm not sure why Simone insinuates that you think it is.

And...Sergio Mattarella's daughter will receive the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica, while her father will receive the Necklace of the Order of Isabel la Católica as recognition, as the appreciation by Kings Felipe and Leizia towards the President of Italy and his daughter, the first lady

This by far IMO is the most spectacular "Royal evening outfit" I have seen in years, covering gown, jewellery, makeup, hair, the complete package. Overall wonderful in execution, thought and resulting presentation. The Queen looked outstanding.

Talk about dripping in diamonds and pearls! I don't think I've ever seen Letizia wear so much jewellery. Usually I would prefer a more colourful evening gown, but I agree with others, that the plain black dress is a perfect backdrop for the jewels. The gown fits so well and make me very aware of the Queen's toned body, especially her arms.

What a magnificent burst of post-pandemic bling Letizia has produced for the Italian President and his daughter. The Loop tiara looks amazing, it seemed a tad outsize the first time I saw it, but I'm comfortable with the proportions here. And even better that the delicious Armani sweetheart neckline gives space for the superb diamond collet necklace. Letizia has done well to dial back to stud earrings when she has the matching collet bracelet as well, plus the striking joyas de pasar pearl and diamond brooch.
