Sadly I dislike this skirt, I am bored with crude uneven hemlines. I do appreciate that the skirt fits nicely through to the mid-thigh and the classic black knit is a welcome addition to the previous styling of silk blouses. Once again, the trimmings of the clutch (gold) and belt (silver) do not match, which is a shame when the Queen has many other options in her wardrobe. Regardless of my quibbles, Letizia looked polished and well put together on Wednesday. I loved seeing her hair off of her face in a chic ponytail.

Jennifer, like you, it is a pet peeve of mine when metals don't match. Whether it is jewellery, belt buckles, zippers, embellishment on a purse or shoes, choose gold, or silver, or pewter, or bronze, but not a combo of different ones. Letizia has enough accessory pieces to be able to do this with little effort.

Hi Laura, I couldn't agree more. Matching trimmings and jewellery (excluding wedding bands/watches) seems like such a trivial detail, but for me, it contributes to making a look polished. I agree, that with Letizia's resources she could easily match items accordingly. In addition, she wears very little jewellery which makes it even easier.

I didn't know this matching of metals was an issue. I never really paid much attention to these details because women today have so much pressure put upon them to look a certain way that worrying about such details seems petty. Fashion to me should be fun and carefree.

Hi Sandy and Bertie, thank you for adding some balance to my thoughts on matching metals. Very expensive jewellery brands (such as Cartier, Buccellati all the way down to the high street) often showcase a combination of metals in one design so the idea has certainly become more relaxed and creative. I mentioned Letizia here as she has a vast collection of accessories at her disposal. I apologise if my opinion came across as forthright, while this is my preference, it's important to note that an outfit is by no means less smart by not adhering to this idea.

Hi Jennifer not forthright at all, just fascinating to see where everyone is on the topic of matched metals. I too was brought up on strict coordination and can get confused these days! Am ok if they are spaced far enough apart.

I've spent most of my adult life making sure silver and gold trims and jewellery are kept apart in outfits. But I'm becoming so accustomed to seeing the rule relaxed that I can only assume that makes me old-fashioned. I'd still never do it for any major event though!

Jennifer, there is no need to apologize. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I just wanted to add to your comment by saying fashion is an art and there really are no rules where creativity is concerned. And I do think that metals can be considered "neutrals" so combining silver and gold together can be stunning. In this case Letizia's belt buckle was far enough away from the clutch that the difference was not obvious and they didn't clash.

The skirt looks very polished and professional with the black crew neck top and pumps. I like Letizia's hair pulled back with the ponytail. In general she looks better with shorter hair or shoulder length.

I like this combination best. The skirt looks refined when teamed with a simple black knit and Burberry belt. I don't mind asymmetrical hemlines so long as the styling is right, and Letizia nailed it with this look!

I do not much care for this skirt either but I do agree that this styling is much more successful than the previous attempts. The skirt has so much fullness around the hem that it is balanced by a slim knit top and classic black accessories. I like the addition of the waist belt, it looks like a part of the skirt and like an expensive detail. It also lengthens the waist upwards. Overall, it's a nice fall look.

As others have stated this skirt looks better with a black, knit top than it did with blouses. I sometimes like asymmetrical skirts, but think they look best in light, floaty fabrics such as a summer dress. Here we have a skirt made from wool with the formality of a conservative plaid. The skirt is fairly tailored looking until you get to the jagged hem. It just isn't cohesive.

This outfit looks a lot better, the styling gives for a more polished look. The black knit top is the perfect choice, as opposed to the silk blouses. I am not a fan of uneven hemlines and this is no different. Regardless the Queen looks lovely.

Alas this Massimo Dutti is reminding me how tired I am of pointed hems. I think this one tries to be too careful by balancing the asymmetry on each side panel and falls between two stools of fashion and wearability. It's a lovely check for business-wear a works well with the plain black crew, and black Herrera acaccessoriesThe Burberry belt lifts the whole outfit.

In my opinion, this is Queen Letizia's best look when wearing this asymmetrical skirt. The combination of the fitted black crew neck top and the ponytail make the skirt look polished rather than everyday.
