Queen Letizia Chairs VIII Forum Against Cancer

The Queen of Spain chaired the eighth annual Forum Against Cancer meeting in Madrid today, organized as part of the events to mark World Cancer Day.

Her Majesty delivered a short speech to open the session in her role as honorary president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).

The Spanish Queen added a touch of boho to her outfit with a tobacco brown suede leather pencil skirt by Uterque.

Letizia teamed it with familiar pieces including a black knit sweater which she first wore in June 2016, and her black suede over-the-knee boots.

When she first wore the boots in a photo for Queen Sofia's 80th birthday, it was thought they were the Magrit 'Francesca' boots because she also has a pair in red suede, but after seeing a photo of the sole, they look to be a high-street style with a rubber sole.

They could be the Steve Madden 'Dominique' boots (US$99.95) which appear to have a similar sole.

Letizia dug deep into her closet to retrieve a gold croc embossed clutch bag first seen in 2014.

cannot believe this look, very trendy for anyone else but her position as queen, public figure, it is soooooo, I cannot even find a word, seems like she wants to get attention and for what reason. She is the queen, she does not need this kind of attention

It was a problem with the light and the phlashes of the cameras as the discos in the 70s, not on purpise at all or attention seeker. She has worn that sweater before at nothing happened. The bra was nude, the most normal one, however it is not well for photos.
Otherwise the cancer symposium was a hit, which is the most important.

On the podium the bra is not seen, nobody knew that might happen. Nevertheless it is a nonsense, obviously not on purpose.

If I'm not mistaken she had a similar incident with the flash bulbs illuminating her bra in photos. I can't remember when or where??? But she should have learned her lesson then. I like the outfit other than that.

Yes, I recall it happened when she was on vacation with the family a couple of years back. She had on a short sleeved black top and pants and her bra could be clearly seen. Sometimes I think the women that marry into royal families feel confined and suffocated by all the rules and regulations. They may try and rebel in various ways to ease their frustrations and assert some sort of independence.

I dislike this outfit on so many levels. I think enough has been said about the bra. If I was Letizia I would be embarrassed beyond words and make sure this never happens again. It appears the fabric of the top is very very thin. Why was it worn in the middle of winter? I think what I hate the most are those thigh high boots that look sleazy when she walks and the skirt opens up. And as for the skirt it looks so outdated like it's from the 1970's. A terrible outfit overall.

Letizia is a normal 46 year old woman who embraces fashion. Being queen should not be used as a club to confine these women into a particular box. There.is.no.rule.book. for. queens. . Sleazy is in the mind of the beholder who associates the boots with other things. If the boots had stopped just below the knee, and the knees were visible in motion that would be considered appropriate. M. Obama recently wore gold thigh Balenciagas worth $4000. for an event. Neither she nor the boots were sleazy.

Yeah she is a beautiful 46 year old woman, who has enough money to have the best and most beautiful clothes, and she come up with this. This blog is all about a queens fashion, so no club there. The reason why we look, is to see how she dresses, I mean a woman of her importance, statue, etc, I expect better suited outfits. She really come across on pictures that she wants attention, show of or just dont care enough about her position and influence.

She does not need to seek attention. It follows her wherever she goes for good or ill. She has to be relatable not an overdressed geisha who looks out of place among normal people. A black bra would have shown up against her complexion under those lights as well. The prudent thing would be not to print 50 shots from all angles and focus on the event. Frivolous yellow press..

Wendy, it was reported that Letizia's salary is well over 100,000 Euros per year. That is well above the average salary of most people in Spain and around the world. That does not include her husbands salary which is probably double that (I don't know the exact figures). I'm sure she has to pay her staff and other expenses including clothes with that money but let's not pretend that she is paid "not too much". She also has great palaces, jewels and other luxuries at her disposal. It's great she wears bargains sometimes but she is a wealthy woman and can afford high quality clothing.

People who focus on Letizia's salary forget that with her level of education, in that industry, and with her career on the rise she would have earned that salary today anyway. Also, she makes more than 100 appearances per year and the press salivates to see new pieces to sell their pictures and stories, while others want a continuous stream of Spanish fashion. There is no room in that budget to match the prices of the outfits of the duchesses, or even Mary. Let's do the maths.

Sandy, yes, they live with that money. Her husband has a salary also. The palaces are not theirs, obviously they do not have a mortage, but no properties either.
She can't wear Valentino, Channel or those things, there are richer women in Madrid who live in La Moraleja and owns bigs houses.
Amancio Ortega, Zara's owner, has much more money...for example.
The comparison is not with us.

The outfit is a combo of beautiful and sophisticated, a trademark Letezia excels at. The whole bra controversey shold ld be dismissed as the lighting is brutal. Most times a nude bra works well. Other times a black bra gives other unfavorable tones. I am sure she is doing her best to be presentable but as cameras and lighting evolve it iti is hard to meet each challenge. She looks like a queen and conducts herself so.

Bra. Unfortunate. Probably due to lighting. I like the thigh high boots with this outfit. Don't like the gold purse to go with it. A black clutch would have been better.

I love, love, love this outfit. What a pity about the flashlights making the bra visible in the photos.
It has to be one of my favorite, if not the favorite, from this year. Incredibly chic and modern.

I don't feel like I need to comment on the visible bra, it was clearly an unfortunate accident with cameras and lighting. Sadly I don't think this outfit lives up to previous years, 2017 & 18 were particularly strong. I'm not sure why a gold clutch was chosen when I believe the detailing on the suede skirt is silver, maybe black would have worked better.

All the palaces and jewels do not belong to the King, they belong to the State. They do not have properties. Obviusly they have more money that a normal person but they are not wealthy. She can't afford the same clothes as Máxima, Mary, Victoria, Kate or Meghan who are richer.
Also in Spain only the King and Queen recive a salary, little Sofía will need to have a normal job.
Juan Carlos' sisters and sibblings have had to work, the State does not mantain them.

I guess we all have different opinions on what is "wealthy". But if the King of Spain and his family are not wealthy than I am extremely poor (and I consider myself to be well off). I recall one of Letizia's dresses cost about $2,000.00 or euros (not sure). Only wealthy people can spend that kind of money on one dress!

The difference to me is that when the money is yours, you can decide your life or a change. They can't sell things and move on or change their job or place to live, it is not a plum, at least for me.
Kate Middleton or Meghan wear £6,000 dresses.
Rania of Jordania told that she obtains discounts, Letizia also....I have no idea in Britain.

It's true the life of royalty involves many restrictions. Their lives are not their own. But let's not forget they get the best of everything in terms of education, health care, palaces, jewels, travel, food, servants at their beck and call, special privileges and discounts etc. etc. If you add all these things up you have to admit they lead extraordinary privileged lives that the rest of us can only dream about. I have to admit I am envious.

In Spain nobody wanted to marry him, weathy women wanted a wealthy man but not the King. More momey and privacy, also Spain is a heterogeneous country with many differences.People think it is a Golden Cage...I am not envious at all....
Much better the Duke of Huescar, the Duchess of Alba's grandson...He owns even more titles, all the palaces belong to him, about 10 or 12, lands and has privacity..

It's true they have no privacy and that's something I don't envy. I can't imagine being watched and criticized constantly. Especially poor Letizia who gets the worst of it. But overall it's still a great life compared to most. I don't feel sorry for them.

Simon, I know they don't own the palaces or other properties. But do they pay rent to live in them? How much would it cost to rent those palaces over the cost of their lifetimes? They live there for free. Do they pay property taxes like the rest of us? Add up all the rent free savings over a lifetime.

This would have been a terrific outfit had it not been for the unfortunate see-through mishap, not something its always possible to gauge in advance of course, I imagine the effects of flashlight photography could be hard to predict. Can't help thinking she must have worn a black bra last time. The skirt is gorgeous, a real treat, with studded belt and edgy seaming. I love how you found a pic showing the top of her boots as she walks! Looks terrific, and hooray for digging out the fancy gold clutch.
